The County of Maui announced the beginning of lifeguard services at Makena State Park, commonly known as Big Beach.

County lifeguards began working at Big Beach on Friday, May 1st, from two towers located at both ends of the beach, and they will be linked to the County's 911 system for emergency response.

Lifeguard services will be provided seven days a week from 8 AM until 4:30 PM.

An official opening ceremony will be held next Friday, May 8, at 10 AM. The public is invited.
