I attended yesterday's the Kihei Community Association's monthly meeting, and I was part of a group discussing sustainable projects for Kihei.
Not surprisingly, everybody in the group thought that building a new four-lane road in the middle of Kihei is not necessary. Instead, everybody agreed that a bicycle-pedestrian path would be a much better option for the area known as the "North-South Collector."
Some said that they don't bike in Kihei because it's very dangerous. Many said that they are taking their kids to the new "Whale Trail" at Kalama Park, where it's safe for little children to learn to ride their bikes, with no driveways and no cars going by.
